Server Build

In the Studio Web on Server and VS Code with Server Build deployment options, the dev Talisman Server builds each project into a container image. In VS Code with CI/CD, your pipeline builds it instead: see CI/CD Build.

What the build does

When you build a project on the dev Server, Talisman runs build.sh from the Configuration project of your repository. It:

  1. Clones main from your Git repository.
  2. Compiles the project.
  3. Builds and pushes an OCI container image to your registry, tagged with the tag you give and the first 7 characters of the commit: <registry>/<group>/<project>:<tag>-<commit>.
  4. On Kubernetes, generates the manifest: the project's kubernetes.yaml, with the Deployment, the Service and the image pinned by digest (tag@digest). Commit it to main.

On Docker, the build pushes the image only; the project's docker-compose.yaml names it.

    B --> K[kubernetes.yaml]

Then deploy the project: see Deployer Engine and Environments.

Customise the build

build.sh is a shell script in your repository: edit it to change the base image, the image platform or the Kubernetes resources it generates. See Docker, Kubernetes and Base Image.
