Git Integration

Talisman uses Git repository to store project data.

The following Secret should be created

apiVersion: "v1"
kind: "Secret"
metadata:
  name: "talisman"
stringData:
  git-branch: "$YOUR_GIT_DEFAULT_BRANCH"
  git-repository: "https://$YOUR_GIT_REPOSITORY"
  git-username: "$YOUR_GIT_USERNAME"
  git-password: "$YOUR_GIT_PASSWORD"

To use SSH instead of username and password the following command should be used to generate keys:

ssh-keygen -t ECDSA -C "name" -m PEM -f $FILE_NAME

The following Environment variables should be configured

KARAVAN_GIT_REPOSITORY=https://$YOUR_GIT_REPOSITORY
KARAVAN_GIT_USERNAME=$YOUR_GIT_USERNAME
KARAVAN_GIT_PASSWORD=$YOUR_GIT_PASSWORD
KARAVAN_GIT_BRANCH=$YOUR_GIT_DEFAULT_BRANCH

Your own Git server in the demo

The Accompanied Demo ships with a Gitea container. To use your own Git server (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or any other) instead:

  1. Create an empty repository for your Talisman projects.
  2. In the demo docker-compose.yaml, remove the gitea service, the gitea entry under depends_on and the TALISMAN_GITEA_INIT variable.
  3. Add the four KARAVAN_GIT_* variables from the Docker tab above to the talisman service. Without them, the server keeps pointing at the bundled Gitea repository.
  4. Start the stack with docker compose up.

Tip

With GitHub or GitLab, use a personal access token as the password.
